Money is Valuable When It Is Circulated

Wednesday, December 23rd, 2009

What is money? Isn’t cash just pieces of paper with value imputed to it by government systems. Let me ask you one thing though– have you ever thought about what makes money valuable? What is it that makes it a worthwhile commodity to have?

We learned about the attributes and effective strategies on making money. We find out about the steps to getting financial freedom. We know all about the importance of wealth building. There is one more important quality you need to know about money that ties it all together-it is that money must circulate.

Money is only valuable when it circulates. What does it matter how much time you spend making money when you’re not going to use it? It seems like common sense to most of us; but there have been many individuals who have sacrificed their quality of life on futile wealth building because they do not truly appreciate this truth.

An example of such a person is old Mr. Chapman. He used to go around streets looking for junk that others have discarded so he can sell them off for whatever amount he can get. Mr. Chapman had never become rich because he lived the same way until he died after several years.

Because he had no close relatives and friends nearby, the authorities had to come in his property to take stock of all that he has left behind. You would expect all the old memorabilia and junk from him-but imagine the surprise of the policemen rummaging the place to find boxes and boxes of cash amounting to more than $100,000 in the house.

Having this much money would certainly afford anybody with financial freedom to do as he pleased in life; yet even with so much money, no one could say that the old junk dealer was a success in life. Far from it, because he never spent and used his money-all the hard work and wealth he had were as good as the trash he collected.

Don’t get me wrong, you must never spend all that you have on wasteful living-of course not. What we are saying is that you must use money to enjoy and have a quality of life everybody deserves. Exercise wisdom in managing your finances, but always put money in its proper place in your life.

We think that poor Mr. Chapman was a foolish old man who should have known better but really, many people who become rich are guilty of the same crime of accumulating without really using their wealth well. Ultimately, your success lies not in the amount you have amassed– but by the life you have lived.
